Scenic view

Assalam alaikoum wa Rahmatullaah wa Barakaatuh,

This picture was captured a few days ago when I was out with a sister to catch the sunset. I had been down in the dumps for the past few weeks so the sister suggested that she take me for a drive to catch sunset at the beach. Initially I thought that I would be tongue tied considering how I had been before. I become lost for words when I’m with her because she’s one of those whom I have such great respect for and I don’t want to say something stupid in front of her.. but she’s really down to earth despite being a well respected lady who has done so much for the community.

Our view was blocked by the rocks so the sister suggested that we climb on it to get a good spot. And true enough, despite the overcast clouds and gloomy weather that day,  we managed to capture a glimpse of  wonderment when the sun slowly started to set just as we sat nicely on the rocks. Allahu Akbar!

Maghrib came and we prayed on the beach together. The sound of waves crashing on the rocks and cool breeze enveloping us while we pray was one of the things that gave me the sense of tranquility and peace.

Anyway, I feel slightly rejuvenated after that night and am glad that I spent some time talking to the sister. It’s comforting to know that if I need talk to someone, there’s always one who will be there al-Hamdulillah.. But of course most importantly, Allah is always there for us when we need him 🙂

Sharing some of the things I’ve learnt

Assalam alaikoum wa Rahmatullaah wa Barakaatuh!

HOW’S EVERYONE!! 🙂 Masha’Allah, I checked the last time I blogged and it was slightly more than 2 months ago! Ya Rabb! Sorry for disappearing.. I pray that insha’Allah everyone is in the best of health and eemaan? 🙂 Well, I’m sure you guys are 😉

Apart from procrastinating, I actually had lots of work to do which explains why I’ve disappeared for this long. I’ve been itching to write or simply post articles but again may I reiterate that I’ve been a lazy bum?

Anyway for those of you who have been following me since early this year, I mentioned that this year would be the most difficult for me since my closest friends have all returned to their countries and I have no one then. The first few months were tough because really, friends are like my family here and being alone is absolutely no fun.

By His mercy, I met a small group of sisters first and later expanded way beyond I have even expected it to. Ya Rabb, you listened to my duas! I was about to change my mind about attending this weekly halaqah but something within compelled me to. I started making a few friends here and there and later, the circle of sisters I know became bigger al-Hamdulillah. During Ramadhan and even till today, I’ve been invited to sisters’ houses for meals and ilm circles (I hope I don’t sound like I’m bragging) and I can’t tell you how blessed I am to have met these sisters!

One thing I’m particularly impressed about is their akhlaq. Subhan’Allah, the way they speak and advice one another is just something I’ve been searching for in sisters. Of course, I’m not implying that the other sisters I know lack adab, but these sisters emphasize a lot on how we should behave and speak with each other.. something which Muslims and myself included are still struggling with! Often, we tend to focus only on what is the Haqq but forget that in saying the truth, we should do so with hikmah. A much older sister who conducts this circle, is one who I’m impressed with. You can tell by the way she strings all her words together in one sentence,  she is trying her best not to say anything which will hurt the feelings of others.

I admit. I am guilty as charged. Growing up in a society where we are told ‘not to beat around the bush’ had instilled this attitude of ‘being too honest’ with people. Several times when someone asks me for my opinion, I’m compelled to say it without hesitation and would not consider how the other person might take it. But al-Hamdulillah being around such sisters often, I find that I’m starting to change the way I speak now. It doesn’t really hurt to beat around the bush a little you know…

Another reason why I like this ilm circle is that anyone of us could present a different perspective on a particular topic without getting shot down for that! I’ve been to discussion boards where people are immediately told to keep quiet just because they have a different opinion. I mean, even if the opinion is not aligned with the shariah, at least give the person a chance to explain himself first and only then advice? Honestly speaking, I’ve been staying away from a lot of Salafi groups lately because of the way people are behaving. I’m very much attached to the teachings of the Salafus as-Salih but, the way some of them are treating and advising one another is simply horrendous and it is pushing me away from getting close to any of them.

Anyway … a lot of rambling. Insha’Allah I hope to continue blogging! 🙂 I do have TONS of things on my mind that I hope to share and discuss. I miss a lot of sisters here especially the three of you – lil auntie, xahu and syahirah! 🙂 Do take care insha’Allah!
