Questions.. and loads of them :)

Assalam alaikoum wa Rahmatullaah wa Barakaatuh,

Blessed Jumaah everyone! Hope that all of you are doing/will be doing something beneficial today insha’Allah! (reminder to self!) πŸ™‚

I told Sis Nasmira that I would answer her questions last weekend but had a submission this week 😦 My apologies to her! The questions are from Sis Nasmira’s page but I’ll cut and paste them here insha’Allah πŸ™‚

Rules:

1.You must post the rules.
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
3. Tag eleven people and link to them on your post.
4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

Here are my eleven questions:

  1. Summer or winter?
  2. The latest book you read?
  3. If you could swap your country/nationality for any other, which one would it be?
  4. One random fact about yourself
  5. What would you have named yourself if you were given the chance to?
  6. When was the last time you wrote a hand written letter?
  7. If you could rewrite ONE historic event..what would it be?
  8. When was the last time you hugged a child, looked into those innocent eyes and told you love him/her?
  9. When was the last time a stranger smiled at u because of your kind word/deed to him/her ?
  10. What’s your favorite color πŸ˜€
  11. What got you into blogging?

My answers:

1)Β Summer or winter?

Winter without a doubt! πŸ™‚ I told my summer-loving sisters that in winter you can always pile on more clothes when it’s cold but in Summer, you can’t *possibly* remove your clothes to cool yourself down. However, taking wudu’ and waking up for Fajr in winter can be a real challenge!

2)Β The latest book you read?

Gaza in crisis by Noam Chomsky and Ilan Pape. Still reading the book btw πŸ™‚ If anyone is wondering why I read non-fiction books is that each time I try to read a fiction novel, there’s a voice at the back of my head which keeps saying “It’s/he’s not true/real!” haha. yes I acknowledge that I’m slightly weird πŸ˜›

3)Β If you could swap your country/nationality for any other, which one would it be?

It would have to be Madinah πŸ™‚ Words cannot describe how much I would love love love to live there.

4)Β One random fact about yourself

I wanted to become a dentist because I like looking at people’s teeth LOL. So sisters, either you cover your mouth with something or wear niqaab when you’re talking to me πŸ˜›

5) What would you have named yourself if you were given the chance to?

Safiyyah. Love the meaning of this name and that it sounds pleasant to my ears πŸ™‚

6)Β When was the last time you wrote a hand written letter?

Reckon in January to my childhood friend. We were ‘celebrating’ our 20 years of friendship πŸ™‚ (geez, I’m that old!)

7)Β If you could rewrite ONE historic event..what would it be?

Hmm.. I wish I can rewrite all the wars because so many lives were lost.. and for what? But since you said ONE, at the top of my head, I would rewrite the Serb-Bosnian war because so many Muslims were killed unjustly. They surrendered their weapons in return for protection promised to them but in the end, were massacred. May Allah grant all the Muslims who had been oppressed, highest place in Jannah!

8)Β When was the last time you hugged a child, looked into those innocent eyes and told you love him/her?

Hugged my 4 year old niece a couple of weeks ago before I left. When I told her I love her, she actually reciprocated lol. Usually she ignores me (read: pride lol)

9)Β When was the last time a stranger smiled at u because of your kind word/deed to him/her ?

Today at a lecture I attended. I congratulated the sister who was seating beside me. She will be graduating end of this semester insha’Allah πŸ™‚

10)Β What’s your favorite color πŸ˜€

RED!! Most of my things are red hehe..If I had my way, I want everything to be red (except my clothes)

11)Β What got you into blogging?

I started blogging a couple of years ago when I had just started learning about Islam. New knowledge would excite me so much that I had to share it with someone. And since my close friends were either non Muslims or not practising, blogging about Islam was the one of the ways I could discuss any Islam-related topics with other Muslims.Β At the same time, I could look back and see where I stood in terms of my spirituality and whether I have grown or lagging behind.

My 11 questions:

  1. What is the one thing you love to do the most (religion aside)?
  2. Share one interesting experience you had.
  3. What is your favourite Suraah and why?
  4. If I were to give you $100 right now, what would you do with it?
  5. Is there any public figure whom you have great respect for?
  6. Can you recall what you were doing last year around this month?
  7. If you’re not a (fill in your occupation), what would you love to be?
  8. What is your secret to happiness?
  9. Choose one of the two options – would you rather swim in shark infested waters or parachute from a helicopter (haha random question sorry!)
  10. A word that describes you best
  11. Lastly, which Sahaabi/Sahabiyyaat (May Allah be pleased with all of them) are you in awe with the most?

  1. not to forget the cozy sleep only winter can provide!
JazakumAllahu khayran for taking your time out and answering them all!!!
loved reading them and discovered many things about u too.. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. Oooh, you answered the questions!! Lol! What a coincidence, I just posted up my answers too.

Ok, since I don’t want you to sentence me to a Hadd punishment and cast me into a dungeon somewhere, I will obligingly answer your questions πŸ˜›

    1. What is the one thing you love to do the most (religion aside)?
Fantasize. I simply love spending time in my head. It’s my happy place! πŸ˜›

    2. Share one interesting experience you had.
I jumped off a jetty into the sea and discovered that the water can be very very very painful. I belly-flopped and my internal organs have never recovered from the trauma of it! 😦

    3. What is your favourite Suraah and why?
Surah Al-Ikhlaas. Because it’s a beautifully compressed description of the Divine. It’s short and easy to remember, but it’s virtues are many πŸ™‚

    4. If I were to give you $100 right now, what would you do with it?
    Save it! Lol!

    5. Is there any public figure whom you have great respect for?
Now? In today’s world? Um….no, I can’t think of any.

    6. Can you recall what you were doing last year around this month?
Lol yes! Navigating the perils of first-time niqab-hood! πŸ˜›

    7. If you’re not a (fill in your occupation), what would you love to be?
An author. A rich and famous best-selling author at that πŸ˜›

    8. What is your secret to happiness?
Tawakkul πŸ™‚ If you have that, then al-hamdulillahi it’s easy to find happiness even in the most tragic of circumstances. Because when you think about it, the world doesn’t matter.

    9. Choose one of the two options – would you rather swim in shark infested waters or parachute from a helicopter (haha random question sorry!)
Parachute from a helicopter most definitely. That way I can just close my eyes and wait to land splat on a rock somewhere! Sharks on the other hand will chomp! Too scary!

    10. A word that describes you best
    Adaptable πŸ™‚

    11. Lastly, which Sahaabi/Sahabiyyaat (May Allah be pleased with all of them) are you in awe with the most?
I adore Umar bin Al-Khattab!! He’s my favoritest of all! I get an eeman rush every time I read about him! Lol!

LOL @ no. 1 … Hahaha, it must be a nice place ‘hanging out’ in your own head eh? πŸ˜›

You injured yourself sis? So what happened to you after that?

Insha’Allah at no. 7! πŸ™‚ Maybe you’ll be the next best known blogger if that doesn’t happens hehe.

  3. btw..im not a niqabi yet..but i’ll sure end up wearing one when I meet you inshaAllah! πŸ˜›
and lol @ your answer #2..i’ll certainly have that voice running in my head from now on! πŸ˜€

    • LOL! Yeah well I have stopped looking at people’s teeth nowadays. So you dont have to worry about it πŸ˜› haha yea well maybe I’ll have another non-fiction reader soon πŸ˜‰

  4. Now my turn πŸ˜€

What is the one thing you love to do the most (religion aside)?
Painting..something about colors mixing up..I get lost while painting..and it doesn’t matter even if the roof falls on my head.. πŸ˜€

Share one interesting experience you had.
Well, interesting or maybe even exciting..was…when…*ahem ahem*..u might think im an idiot after u read this..but well.
back when i was 16, and with cricket on top of my head..and my head over heels in love with Aussie cricketers…I managed to find out which hotel they were staying in mumbai..called up…asked the receptionist to connect me Brett Lee’s room…and much to my horror she did…without asking a single question of who I was, etc. etc ..Major security failure or maybe she knew i was a crazy teenager wanting to get speak to one of the handsome guys around that time..whichever way.. haha..
i managed to SPEAK!!! its was my OMG moment! πŸ˜€
i got a chance to speak to not just one but three to 5 of them many times over..how the receptionist connected my call is a story which Allah alone knows best..coz that was NEVER meant to happen..lol..was very very interesting!
(btw..those were my jahaliyyah days…to make things clear :D)

What is your favourite Suraah and why?
Surah Maryam…i dunno..there is a lot of peace and a sudden love that develops inside when i read it..and also Surah Duha..my morale redeemer!

If I were to give you $100 right now, what would you do with it?
I could only think of Somalia and Palestine when I saw this question..so maybe I would donate them all away.. they are more in need than me (alhamdulillah for that)

Is there any public figure whom you have great respect for?
Another cricketer..Rahul Dravid, for the hard work, sincerity and dedication he puts in, and Nouman Ali Khan…he helped me establish a beautiful bond with Quran with his amazing tafseers..if not for him..I would have read Quran many times over and yet not pondered even once..subhanAllah!!

Can you recall what you were doing last year around this month?
    Can’t recall ! πŸ˜€

If you’re not a (fill in your occupation), what would you love to be?
Not an writer..I would have been a full time artist..or maybe an interior designer..

What is your secret to happiness?
Contentment that He swt knows what’s best for me better than I myself do!

Choose one of the two options – would you rather swim in shark infested waters or parachute from a helicopter (haha random question sorry!)
Parachute from a helicopter..why swim with the sharks and have a painful death! πŸ˜€

A word that describes you best
    Assertive

Lastly, which Sahaabi/Sahabiyyaat (May Allah be pleased with all of them) are you in awe with the most?
Umar ibn al Khattab..the fact was I never knew much about him until i heard “The Life of Umar” series by Anwar al Awlaki..I’ve been in aweeeee ever since..we really need an Umar in today’s times.. everything will fall back in place bi’ihtnillah!

    • Nouman Ali Khan!! I forgot!! I forgot!! How could I forget? He has literally brought the Quran from an abstract existence in my life to something that is vivid and concrete, subhan Allah! I’m changing my answer to him! πŸ™‚

And Nasmira? Lol at your jahiliyya days! I can relate! πŸ˜› My OMG moment was seeing Hrithik Roshan and getting his autograph after stalking him outside his hotel! And now we shall not discuss my past bollywood infatuation! *hurries away*

      • LOL…all of us have our jahaliyyahs..however, the bigger the jahaliyyah, the greater the connection with Islam, i’ve noticed! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      • True yea insha’Allah! πŸ™‚ I came across this hadeeth sometime back but it applies to what you said:

Abu Huraira said, The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “People are like mines of silver and gold; the best of them in the days of Ignorance (jahilliyah) are the best of them in Islam when they attain knowledge.” [Muslim, Mishkat]

        Subhan’Allah yea? πŸ™‚

    • Hehe jazakillah khayr to you too for answering the questions! πŸ˜€

You must have been really nuts over those cricketers lol! And no way you’re an idiot for doing that! … because well I did the same thing too πŸ˜› I stalked a badminton player before and now when I think about it, I thought I was nuts for doing so lol. We’re on the same boat don’t worry (along with Sis Xahu hehe). But glad that it’s all over now for you πŸ˜€ Btw, out of curiosity, what did you talk to them over the phone? πŸ˜›

And oh yes, I agree with you about Br Nouman ali khan. I was thinking to myself when I asked the question about which public figure you guys had respect for. His lectures are indeed amazing masha’Allah! Especially the tafseer ones like you said.

And as for being assertive, I’m surprised to read that again. When you said that you’re shy AND quiet, I was thinking owh, we can bully her LOL :p But like there’s a saying, don’t step on an sleeping dog (..or something along that line right?) lol.But al-Hamdulillah it’s good or else others will take advantage of you if you are not firm enough πŸ™‚

      • lol!! i spoke sooo much to those cricketers that it’ll be a good blogpost in itself! πŸ™‚ will write about it when I get some extra time to recap and rewind inshaallah! πŸ™‚
        btw,which badminton player? πŸ˜‰
quite silent but very very assertive..lol..

      • LOL lol.. would love to see what sort of thing you talked to them about! I’m always curious what people ask celebrities.. because most of the time we only read about them in magazines, newspaper articles etc but that’s just on the surface… Anyway, don’t laugh but I was stalking a female badminton player. Her name is Lilyana Natsir. I admired her because she was the world champion at 18 and played mixed doubles (I played that position too!) so she was someone I really looked up to then πŸ™‚
Lol sis, I’ll watch out when I’m with you πŸ˜‰ I’m the opposite of you πŸ˜›

      • lol sis!! and in thought it was a male player.. πŸ˜›
don’t worry sis..i AM with ppl the way they ARE with me..your way too sweet and u shall receive only sweetness from my end!! πŸ™‚

      • Haha yea well I had some male crushes but again the realistic me knows that they will never like me the same way as I do.. so why bother LOL. I hate how I don’t give room to fantasy sometimes πŸ˜›

Awwww.. I think I might contracted diabetes from you lol!

  5. Salam ‘alaik sis!
I’m really bad when it comes to answering questions lol. Poor me.
*insha Allah .. I’ll answer them all later (how long is that ‘later’, i’m not sure lol )
